Influence of different organics on fruiting, yield and quality of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. kesar

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is the King of fruits due to its wide range of adaptability, high nutritive value, richness in variety, distinctive taste and magnificent flavour. Currently, organic farming is pivotal need of recent era and Government is targeting on organic cultivation but least work was carried out on foliar application of organic product for organic cultivation of mango. In light of given facts, present experiment was carried out with objective to study the effect of foliar spray of different organics on fruiting, yield and quality of mango cv. Kesar. The experiment was laid out in completely randomized design (CRD) with ten treatments and three repetitions included foliar spray of different organics i.e., 1% Cow urine (T1), 3% Cow urine (T2), 5% Cow urine (T3), 1% Panchagavya (T4), 3% Panchagavya (T5), 5% Panchagavya (T6), 1% Novel plus organic liquid nutrients (T7), 3% Novel plus organic liquid nutrients (T8), 5% Novel plus organic liquid nutrients (T9) and Control (T10). Total five sprays of organics were given i.e. at time of flowering initiation and 15, 30, 45 and 60 days after first spray. The results revealed that optimum fruiting characters i.e., fruit set per panicle at marble stage (41.31%), egg stage (20.16%) and harvesting stage (5.95%); yield and yield attributing characters i.e., yield per tree (30.36 kg), yield per hectare (12.65 t), average weight of fruit (298.17 g), fruit length (12.25 cm), fruit diameter (7.72 cm) and fruit volume (281.67 ml); and quality parameters i.e., shelf life (15.53 days), fruit firmness (2.39 kg cm-2), TSS (20.30 °Brix), titrable acidity (0.21%), ascorbic acid content of fruit (19.25 mg 100 g-1), total sugar content of fruit (17.78%), reducing sugar content of fruit (6.79%), higher sensory evaluation scores i.e., colour (8.60), texture (8.47), flavour (8.33), taste (8.60), overall acceptability (8.50) were obtained in foliar spray of 3% Novel plus organic liquid nutrients (T8). Owing to the results obtained during this experiment, it can be concluded that mango cv. Kesar treated with foliar spray of 3% Novel plus organic liquid nutrients gave best results in terms of fruiting, yield and quality parameters.
