Low DG Fuel Consumption Solution for Communications Base Stations in Areas with Poor Mains Power Availability
In areas with poor mains power availability and where power outages frequently occur, diesel generators (DGs) and batteries are used together as backup power supplies for communications base stations. However, such a power supply solution leads to high fuel expenses and carbon emissions, as well as operation and maintenance (O&M) difficulties and other problems. This paper describes the power supply solution used by base stations of a certain communications operator in Pakistan and then proposes a novel solution featuring low DG fuel consumption, which can be utilized when providing backup power supply in areas with poor mains power availability.
