Adaptive Virtual Life System Using Swarm Intelligence and 3D Rendering Techniques

The development of virtual life forms that adapt and evolve their shapes and movements in response to their environment to accomplish tasks is a multidisciplinary research area with broad and rich implications. This paper proposes a virtual life system that leverages swarm intelligence for real-time adaptive dynamics and integrates a 3D rendering technique to achieve smooth and soft appearances. Specifically, the proposed system treats a swarm composed of multiple agents as a single virtual life form, equipped with interaction and feedback mechanisms to maintain order while moving toward a goal. To represent the entire swarm as a lifelike, soft, and smooth entity, the system uses a ray marching technique in the 3D rendering process, which can seamlessly connect the constituent agents. This approach allows the virtual life form to adapt its shape and movements to various external environments without prior learning, while maintaining a smooth appearance and successfully overcoming challenging tasks.
