Evaluation of the relative drought resistance of paiza by germination of seeds in osmotic solution
This article presents the results of breeding work on the creation of drought-resistant paiza material for further inclusion in the breeding process. In the arid conditions of the Lower Volga region, paiza is a promising forage crop. This choice is also determined by its relative drought resistance and the ability to withstand extreme positive temperatures in arid climatic conditions of Russia without loss of yield and grain quality, which allows it to be grown in many regions of the Russian Federation. The article presents the results of three-year tests based on the assessment of the drought resistance of paiza when germinating seeds in sucrose solution of several concentrations with osmotic pressure from 6 to 18 atmospheres. The samples of paiza O-1, Eureka and Palmyra, which are classified as highly resistant, were isolated. Key words: PAYZA, DROUGHT RESISTANCE, GERMINATION, SUCROSE, OSMOTIC PRESSURE
