Design of a Robot for Recognizing and Sewing 3D-Shaped Car Door Trim Lines
Currently, the sewing industry is experiencing a decline in the number of technicians because approximately 77.7% of domestic sewing technicians (primarily those in their 50s and 60s) are retiring, with little to no influx of new technicians in their 20s and 30s. This has led to a continuous decrease in the number of highly experienced sewing technicians besides the challenges in recruiting new technicians. Furthermore, there is a shortage of technicians skilled in sewing complex 3D door trims, resulting in productivity issues. This study addresses these challenges by developing an AI-powered robotic sewing solution for recognizing and stitching intricate 3D door trim lines.
