Design of High-Efficiency and High-Torque Multiphase Motor with Electric Propulsion System for Small Vessels for Energy Saving

In this study, a high-efficiency multiphase brushless direct current (BLDC) used in small electric thrusters is developed. It enables high-efficiency ship design because electric-propulsion ships possess a better sense of boarding and offer better adjustment than mechanical propulsion methods used for diesel engines, as well as because of the high flexibility of ship internal arrangement and linear design. Therefore, clean energy should be used from an environmental perspective. Meanwhile, for energy saving and cost reduction, an electric-propulsion chain motor is essential for small electric ships, in addition to a high-efficiency motor with low noise BLDC propellant development and energy saving. Therefore, this study proposes the Ziegles-Nichols method, which determines proportionality, integration, and differential constants in the time domain with a multiphase BLDC motor and controller with low noise, high efficiency, and high torque. Subsequently, this method is verified through the actual measurement of the propulsion motor speed of the electric propellant via FOC control.
