Analysis of educational content for single-person households according to revision of home economics curriculum

This study aimed to analyze the educational content related to single-person households in accordance with curriculum revisions. Content analysis was employed as the research method, to examine the representation of single-person households in the 1st to 7th curricula, as well as the revised curricula of 2007, 2009, 2015, and 2022 including textbooks. The findings revealed that the family types presented from the 2nd curriculum did not include single-person households. A table illustrating changes in family types was provided starting with the 5th curriculum, and from the 7th curriculum onwards, single-person households were primarily included within various family type classifications. Since the 2007 revised curriculum, textbooks have defined single-person households and discussed the reasons for their increasing prevalence. The results of this study suggest that a unified definition of single-person households is essential, and that related content should be integrated into the curriculum. This will help ensure that individuals in single-person households, who are increasing across all age groups, can lead healthy lives throughout the family life cycle, from youth to old age. Furthermore, in the re-education process for teachers in the new normal era, it is crucial to establish a framework for educational discussions that can help change perceptions and inform decisions regarding single-person households and various family types.
