Shaping The Future of Healthcare with Artificial Intelligence: Current Trends and Beyond
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to perform tasks that typically require human cognitive abilities, such as problem-solving, learning, reasoning, perception, language understanding, and decision-making. The integration of AI is rapidly transforming the healthcare industry by enhancing diagnostic accuracy, personalizing treatments, streamlining administrative tasks and revolutionize medical research. AI has shown significant promise in medical imaging through machine learning, predictive modelling for disease progression, and natural language processing for electronic health record analysis. It investigates extensive volumes of data with efficiency and precision. This has led to the development of various applications that have improved patient outcomes and reduced the workload of healthcare professionals. However, limitations persist, including data privacy concerns, the interpretability of AI decision-making, potential biases, and regulatory challenges. These issues hinder widespread adoption in clinical settings. The current review highlights the present state of AI in the medical domain, its varied applications across disciplines, as well as the forthcoming prospects in clinical practice for healthcare professionals, medical establishments, educational institutions, and bioethical considerations. Moreover, the emergence of an era characterized by AI-enhanced medical practice has an equal number of skeptics as well as advocacy that needs to be considered.
