A059: Multidimensional Interpretation and Development Strategies for theInternational Communication of Dragon and Lion Dancing

The dragon and lion dance, as the bright treasure of Chinese traditional sports culture, demonstrates Chinese cultural confidence and distinct national characteristics, serving as an important showcase for China's image. However, the international communication of dragon and lion dance faces numerous challenges, including understanding barriers caused by cultural differences, limitations in promotion scope, uneven overall development levels, and balancing cultural impact with cultural identity. These issues are pertinent to the future development of dragon and lion dance. After conducting a literature analysis, the historical origins, cultural connotations, and communication processes of dragon and lion dances were systematically examined, laying a solid foundation for further research. Secondly, we extensively gathered authoritative academic literature, as well as high-definition video recordings of dragon and lion dance performance competitions from both domestic and international sources. Additionally, we employed interview methods to conduct face-to-face or online interviews with practitioners, researchers, and audience representatives of dragon and lion sports. These interviews aimed to gain insights into performance practices, audience feedback, and cultural adaptations across different countries and regions. This study, approaching from multiple dimensions including culture, society, philosophy of the body, economics, politics, and education, has found that the international dissemination of dragon and lion dance movements possesses the following significant values: 1. Facilitated the global understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture. 2. Enhanced cross-cultural resonance through the integration of technology and art. 3. Promoted global awareness and respect for the diversity of bodily expressions and movements. 4. Empowered the global cultural industry, fostering diversity. 5. Bolstered sports diplomacy to elevate China's influence in the global cultural landscape. 6. Fostered cultural identity among youth worldwide and innovate in the field of physical education. The dragon and lion dance played a pivotal role in international cultural communication. To enhance its global influence, several strategies are proposed: 1. Precise positioning and image rebranding, distilling core cultural elements into accessible symbols for international audiences. 2. Innovative communication strategies, utilizing VR/AR, social media challenges, and collaborations with international IPs. 3. Strengthening cultural exchange through participation in major events, cultural residency programs, and international festivals. 4. Balancing localization and internationalization, adapting the dance while maintaining traditional and seeking international collaborations. 5. Focusing on talent development and educational outreach, creating resources, refining curricula, and implementing youth exchange programs. 6. Enhancing brand development and evaluation systems, increasing visibility through competitions and image ambassador representation, and establishing a comprehensive global evaluation framework.
