Traffic Congestion Management in South Tangerang City as an Effort to Conserve Energy in the Transportation Sector
Traffic congestion management is crucial in urban areas due to its impact on air quality and energy consumption. This research aims to demonstrate that traffic engineering interventions can reduce congestion, lower fuel consumption, and decrease emissions, using empirical evidence from case study in Puspiptek Serpong (central hub in South Tangerang). Traffic modeling results showed that reducing traffic conflict points decreases average delays by 3.1% (from 516.65 to 599.72 seconds/vehicle), increases speed by 9.2% (from 26.01 to 28.41 km/h), and decreases fuel consumption by 2.69% (from 143.73 to 139.87 liters/1000km) Lower vehicle speeds contribute to the higher fuel consumption and emissions.
