THE ROLE OF THE NORTHERN SEA ROUTE IN TERMS OF THE STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT OF RUSSIA
Historically, the Northern Sea Route has always played a major role in the Russian economy, in supplying the population of the vast territories of the Far North. This highway has recently acquired special importance in the context of a reduction in natural resources on the continental part of the globe, the melting of Arctic ice and anti-Russian sanctions. At the same time, the transport fleet and the entire coastal infrastructure of the Arctic have been in decline since the 90s of the twentieth century and require radical modernization. The adopted "Plan for the development of the Northern Sea Route until 2035 includes the construction of new ports, the development of the icebreaker fleet, the entire coastal infrastructure, as well as the creation of conditions for attracting investment and business development. In total, there are more than 150 events in the Plan. The Northern Sea Route is interesting for many friendly countries. China has long expressed its interest in the development of the Arctic, and especially in the development of the Ice Silk Road, the most important part of which should be the Northern Sea Route. To achieve the set goals, many problems need to be solved, including the provision of highly qualified personnel.
