A Lightweight Blockchain Strategy for Managing Smart Grids and Distributing Energy
In many countries, energy suppliers are not able to cover the whole country. As a result, the involvement of private individuals in the production of (renewable) energy seems essential to promote the economic development of remote areas. This paper proposes a system that allows individuals to buy and sell energy according to their needs and production, without the need to deploy a centralized server. It is based on Blockchain technology, Edge computing and a set of algorithms designed to automate decentralized peer- to- peer energy exchange. An Open Source implementation of the solution, based on the two most widely used blockchain technologies today (Hyperledger and Ethereum), is available online to demonstrate the relevance of this approach and enable its collaborative improvement.
