Study of fracturing for the identification of areas with high water potential by remote sensing and GIS in the Tafegount-Zemoul axis North of Tindouf (South-West Algeria)

This study aims to propose a method for determining the provinces with high water potential. This work is based on the combination of the application of remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) to studies on groundwater and surface water in the northern region of Tindouf (southwestern Algeria), where work is rare and incomplete due to very difficult geographical conditions and hard access to the land. The objective is to define the role of the geological characteristics of underground hydrodynamics in the aquifer system of the northern region of the Tindouf Basin and to extract the relationship between morphology and fracturing on the one hand and the water supply from this aquifer from another. The methodology followed consists of studying the fracturing of the zone which is obtained after processing Landsat 8 OLI images on QGIS and our new geological map of the sector extracted from maps of Morocco (Akka_Tafagount_Tata 1/200,000 and Agadir_Tissint_Zemoul 1/200,000). This process based on the mapping of structural lineaments, and the extraction of the hydrographic network from the digital elevation model (DEM).
