Unlocking the Size Advantage of New Standard: CAdES Signatures with Long-Term Validity

A framework has been established to ensure interoperability and compatibility with specific standards for electronic signatures, whose importance has been increasingly recognized in parallel with technological advances. Due to factors such as emerging developments, requirements and the need to improve interoperability have required these standards to have a dynamic structured and be updated in parallel. Electronic signature standards within the scope of the European Union are also updated dynamically in this context. Recent studies draw attention to various advantages of current electronic signature standards, such as size advantages. This study highlights differences between the ETSI technical standards that are used in Turkey and the current European standards. The advantages of contemporary electronic signature standards, according to the literature, have been examined with the practical size analysis studies. This analysis has demonstrated that current standards can offer a notable size advantage. Furthermore, the benefits of current standards in the electronic signatures have been emphasized. The study's findings underscore the significance of updates in standards and the necessity of compliance with these updates. Additionally, it provides a valuable resource for evaluating the transition requirements to current standards of Turkey or other countries with similar usage scenarios.
