Field Experiments on Highly Robust Mobile Reception for Advanced ISDB-T
Twenty years has been passed since digital terrestrial television broadcasting service with using ISDB-T started in Japan. Currently, research and development is underway on the next generation of terrestrial broadcasting. In particular, we have been conducting research on advanced digital terrestrial television broadcasting system (Advanced ISDB-T) that can transmit UHDTV content for fixed reception and HDTV content for mobile reception in one channel (6 MHz bandwidth). Advanced ISDB-T has wide range transmission parameters including highly robust parameter that can successfully receive the signals even at C/N=0 dB. Therefore, it is possible to use transmission parameters with a required C/N that is more than 10 dB smaller than that of ISDB-T mobile reception. The authors evaluate a scheme for transmitting audio content by using highly robust transmission parameters to provide uninterrupted mobile service even when video content is interrupted. This paper describes the results of field experiments.
