DC Microgrid Design for Aircraft

In this study, a DC microgrid design for airplanes and other aircraft is realized. In today's aircraft, the AA voltage generated by the generator rotated by the aircraft engine is converted to DC voltage and used to supply the DC loads in the aircraft. The quality and reliability of the DC voltage is very important for the critical loads in the aircraft. In this study, the AA voltage is converted to ±270V DC voltage and then to 28V DC voltage used in Boeing 787. Two DC/DC step-down converters were used to achieve this goal. A Gray Wolf Algorithm (GWO) based fractional order PID (FO-PID) controller is used to obtain small and high-quality voltage fluctuations at the outputs of the converters. In addition, a 28V load system was designed to generate the 28V DC microgrid portion used in airplanes. In this system, two DC motors of different power were used to represent the windshield wiper motors and fans in the ventilation systems, one lamp to represent the lighting and one resistance element to represent the resistances in the air conditioning systems. In this way, a high voltage DC microgrid with a voltage of ±270V and a low voltage DC microgrid with a voltage of 28V were created.
