Sensing Window Adaptation in Partial Sensing-based (SWAP) Resource Allocation for Vulnerable Road Users in 5G-V2X
In vehicular networks, implementing 5G for vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication, various user categories are present, including vehicular users (VUEs) with huge source of energy and vulnerable road users, such as pedestrian users (PUEs) or cyclists, with dissimilar energy constraints. This paper investigates RA schemes specified by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for both VUEs and PUEs, utilizing sidelink communication including sensing-based and random-based Resource Allocation (RA) algorithms for VUEs, along with periodic partial sensing (PPS) and contiguous partial sensing (CPS) algorithms for PUEs, with periodic and aperiodic traffic, respectively. It then proposes a novel algorithm named sensing window adaptation in partial sensing (SWAP) for PUEs with periodic traffic to further reduce energy consumption while fulfilling reliability and latency. The results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the legacy PPS algorithms specified by 3GPP in energy consumption.
