FAST Design Methodology for Swift XR Prototyping: An Interior Design System Example
Despite rapid growth in extended reality (XR) interfaces, there is still a need for tools enabling swift and rapid prototyping of XR experiences while at the same time lowering entry barriers for developers and designers. In this paper we explore the use of the Functional Analysis Systems Technique (FAST) design method for XR prototyping. It is a well-established and flexible design engineering methodology that we have successfully used in the past to develop a diverse portfolio of XR systems and prototypes. We present this technique using an immersive VR-based interior design system as an example. We detail the analysis of user requirements and the structuring of system functionalities through FAST, and demonstrate how FAST enables early identification and resolution of potential issues.
