Interference Region Aware Channel Assignments for a Scalable LoRa Network
The Adaptive Data Rate (ADR) method used in LoRa networks to manage data rate, airtime, fairness, and energy consumption has proven to be not so efficient in scenarios with heavy traffic load and high node density. This issue led to intense research efforts, aimed at creating more efficient algorithms, able to manage dynamically contentions and data transmissions. Specifically, the goal of this paper the proposal a strategy to assign communication parameters, such as Spreading Factors (SF) and channel frequencies, to competing nodes and at the same time balance the load on different channels by exploiting the new concept of Interference Region. The performance of the proposed mechanism is compared with three benchmarks, namely the classic ADR, and two previously proposed mechanisms called ALS-LB and EXPLoRa-AT, under homogeneous and heterogeneous traffic conditions.
