Comprehensive Analysis on the Synergistic Development between Electricity and Hydrogen
Under the “dual carbon” targets, the coupling between different energy systems such as electricity, hydrogen, gas, heat, and cooling is becoming increasingly urgent. Hydrogen has emerged as a crucial agent connecting the power industry with various end-use sectors. This paper innovatively proposes the three levels of understanding the synergistic development of electricity and hydrogen. The three levels specifically entail: the coordinated value of electricity and hydrogen within the renewable energy system, the system synergy based on physical coupling, and the industrial chain synergy grounded in industrial layout. Then, the analysis framework including the three major values, the four synergy mechanisms and the supporting policies and market requirements are proposed. At last, the four synergy mechanisms are elaborated in detail to illustrate how electricity and hydrogen could work together. The paper could provide important guidance and is of high value to the theory of synergy between electricity and hydrogen.
