A Handheld Electronic Stethoscope for Non-Invasive Cuffless Blood Pressure Detection Using Real-Time PCG and PPG Signal Recording

Regular blood pressure monitoring at home has been proven to mitigate substantial risks associated with heart disease. However, existing gold-standard blood pressure devices are required to be more active and user-friendly for monitoring over a long period. This study introduces a handheld electronic stethoscope with a non-invasive method for calculating blood pressure based on vascular transit time. The wearable device is designed to be user-friendly while offering useful visual and numeric information. The stethoscope demonstrates a promising functional performance with a signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 32 dB across all cases, implying highly reliable PCG recording. Initial blood pressure measuring conducted with seven volunteers yielded mean absolute errors of 6.6 mmHg and 5.13 mmHg for diastolic and systolic blood pressure, respectively.
