The Theoretical Description for Gyromitrin and Orellanin Electrochemical Determination Mushroom Pulp and Biological Liquids for Forensic Purposes

For the first time, the possibility of gyromitrin and orellanin electrochemical determination in mushroom pulp has been evaluated theoretically. The analysis of the correspondent mathematical model confirms that the cathodic process, using vanadium (III) oxyhydroxide, is the most efficient for determining both analytes, although the anodic route is also possible. The electrochemical reduction will be given by gradual N-oxide reduction of the orellanin molecule and reductive gyromitrin destruction. This process will be given in an acidic medium and will be compatible with the forensic analysis of mushroom pulp and food products for the investigation process, which confirms the viability of the use of electrochemical sensors as a rapid and efficient tool for the criminal investigation of mushroom poisoning.
