Introducing Interactive Elements To Mobile Virtual Reality: Leveraging Smartphone Sensors For Immersive Experiences

In today’s dynamic landscape of augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), the quest for inclusive and interactive experiences has become paramount. Traditional interactive VR systems are often costly and inaccessible to many users. In response, this research endeavors to democratize immersive experiences by leveraging everyday smartphones with basic VR headsets. By harnessing smartphone sensors and integrating image tracking technology, our research aims to bridge the gap between costly interactive VR systems and accessible passive VR experiences. The implementation involves methodologies such as image tracking using Vuforia, masking of the real world, gyroscopic control for 360-degree viewing, and split-screen VR rendering for stereoscopic viewing. Additionally, the paper discusses the challenges encountered, including the integration of hand tracking technology and the optimization of performance for mobile deployment. Through iterative development and exploration of methodologies, our research seeks to advance the field of smartphone-integrated passive VR, making immersive experiences accessible to a broader audience across various domains.
