Automated Soil Profile Analysis Using Optical Sensors

Soil plays a vital role in the environmental cycle, particularly in agriculture, where it is essential for sustaining human life by maintaining adequate food production. The quality of soil is crucial in this context, as it contains inorganic material, organic matter, minerals, and microorganisms necessary for plant growth. However, human activities increasingly pollute the soil, threatening its quality. To enhance soil quality, testing is vital. Traditional soil testing methods are often time-consuming and expensive. To address these challenges, this study proposes an automated soil profile analyzer that assesses soil profile for agricultural purposes based on soil color. This automated soil profile analyzer uses an optical sensor to detect soil color through RGB values. The system integrates an optical module with an Arduino board, creating a database of RGB values corresponding to different color chips in the Munsell soil chart. When analyzing an unknown soil sample, its RGB values are compared to the database in a Python environment. The results provide the Munsell color code for the sample, allowing determination of soil profile.
