Internet of Things and Cloud Assisted LoRaWAN Enabled Real-Time Water Quality Monitoring Framework for Urban and Metropolitan Cities
The urbanisation and increase in population has necessitated the development of efficient water resource management in urban and metropolitan regions. The emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), Long Range (LoRa) networks, and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) has created an innovative approach to monitoring and overseeing water quality. The proposed architecture incorporates sensors for measuring several water quality indicators, including pH levels, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, total dissolved solids and temperature. The data is transferred wirelessly using LoRaWAN, a low-power wide-area networking technology, to enable efficient and long-range communication between the sensors and a central data processing unit. A water quality monitoring framework have developed and deployed to protect and safeguard the integrity of water supplies for everyday use. The system is designed using the ESP32IoT platform and installed in several water sources and water supply tanks in urban and metropolitan regions. The LoRa sensor nodes are equipped with five different types of water quality sensors are all connected to a single LoRaWAN gateway. A user and authorities may monitor real-time water quality data with the AWS IoT cloud platform and a mobile application dashboard. Ultimately, the enhancements made to the system enable LoRa to interact seamlessly with IoT applications in urban environments. The results highlight the system's capacity to improve environmental sustainability, reduce the effects of water pollution, and enable prompt decision-making for managing urban water resources.
