A modeling and control of Load Frequency for Interconnected Thermal/Hydro/Nuclear Power System using PI and Fuzzy Controller

This paper present three area interconnected different power system frequency control using PI (Proportional Integral) and Fuzzy controller. This study focuses on a three-area system comprising a thermal power station in $1^{\text {st }}$ area, a hydro power plant in $2^{\text {nd }}$ area, and a nuclear power plant in $3^{\text {rd }}$ area. The usage of a proportional integrator (PI) and a FLC (Fuzzy logic controller) for load frequency adjustment in the Thermal, Hydro and Nuclear Power System is presented in the paper. The maximum allowed variation is $\pm 0.5 \mathrm{~Hz}$, and the frequency variation is highly undesirable. To investigate the performance of a three area system, we are comparing the overshoot and settling time values for each scenario using PI and fuzzy logic control techniques individually for $\mathbf{1 \%}$ distraction in either area. The findings demonstrate that the FLC has a short settling time to reach the ultimate steady state and insignificant peak overshoots. With MATLAB / SIMULINK software, the suggested controller’s efficacy is verified. The simulation results shows that the FLC effectively addresses the load frequency control issue.
