Design of a Dog-Friendly Park to Mitigate Conflicts Surrounding Dogs†,†† - Focusing on Idle Industrial Facilities in Gumi-dong -

This study proposes the design of a dog-friendly park utilizing the idle industrial site of the Gumi-dong Wastewater Treatment Plant in Seongnam City to address increasing conflicts related to dogs caused by rapid urbanization and social changes. The park includes specialized areas such as a spacious off-leash zone, agility facilities, and a dog-exclusive swimming pool, which aim to enhance the physical and mental well-being of dogs while promoting harmonious coexistence between dog owners and non-dog owners. In addition to these features, central spaces and cultural zones provide diverse leisure opportunities for all users, making the park an inclusive environment that caters to a wide range of community needs. The boundary design employs the Ha-Ha technique to maintain visual openness and ensure seamless landscape continuity within the park. This integrated design approach establishes the park as a sustainable model for urban regeneration and public welfare enhancement, contributing to the armonious development of dog culture and urban living, while also fostering stronger community bonds.
