CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND INSTITUTIONAL ENVIRONMENT: ASSESSING THE RELATIONSHIP
The researchers discuss various institutional contexts of corporate social responsibility (CSR) at the macroeconomic level. Based on literature review, the authors emphasize different scholars’ interest in national characteristics of CSR, environmental and social consequences of legislative initiatives in this area, as well as opportunities to use this phenomenon as a factor for reducing transaction costs and enhancing the resilience of socio-economic systems considering national specifics. The macroeconomic approach to determining the level of CSR through international comparisons is based on indicators such as gross domestic product per capita, the Gini coefficient, and ecological safety indicators, which, according to the study’s authors, most accurately reflect the institutional context of CSR. Additionally, the choice of these indicators is justified by their regular publication, availability, and transparency of information provided by relevant international organizations, thereby increasing the validity of the data used. The collected dataset was utilized to construct a correlation model that allows assessing the impact of each selected indicator on the national level of CSR in various countries. Traditional econometric methods were employed to verify the model’s accuracy. Recommendations have been developed to suggest potential directions for further research aimed at promoting the institutional context of CSR at the macroeconomic level.
