Types of Pharmacoeconomic Analysis and Economic Evaluation of the Pharmacist's Role

The pursuit of maximum outcomes from limited resources drives healthcare policymakers to utilize health economic tools to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of pharmaceutical services. Amid unprecedented growth in global spending on medications, the need for cost containment continues to rise, making funding decisions increasingly reliant on objective data. Pharmacoeconomics, as a methodology, is recognized for assessing the comparative value of medications and services. Recent studies confirm that pharmacist involvement in disease management not only aids in cost savings but also positively impacts patient health outcomes. This article presents the impact of pharmacy staff interventions on costs in both critical and non-critical care settings. However, it is also essential to consider that both individual costs and the likelihood of achieving expected outcomes can vary across different environments or between healthcare systems. The article emphasizes the importance of pharmacoeconomic analysis and the development of targeted policies in healthcare systems to effectively manage costs, improve patient health outcomes, and maximize resource utilization. Keywords: Cost–benefit analysis, Cost-effectiveness analysis, Pharmacoeconomics, Pharmacist.
