THE RELIEF OF THE GEGHARKUNIK REGION AS A TOURIST RESOURCE

In the modern world, where people are more and more drawn to nature for recreation, relief serves not only as a physical indicator of the landscape, but also as a basis for the organization of recreational and tourist activities. In the recreational and tourist assessment of the territory, the most important is the multifactorial assessment of the relief. D. Poghosyan, V. Metanjyan, F. Gevorgyan [6, 9, 10] were engaged in morphometric assessments of relief, but their research fields do not touch upon the topic discussed in this article. The studies conducted by Martirosyan, Tadevosyan, Kolotova, Antiptseva and others are aimed at solving this problem [1, 2, 7, 8, 9]. This is an important circumstance for the spatial organization of tourism and recreation. However, the approaches existing in the professional literature do not fully solve this problem, so there is a need to conduct new studies. This is the relevance of this work. This article presents a recreational and tourist assessment of the relief of the Gegharkunik region. The study was conducted based on the Accessibility Index, its definition and the indicators obtained with its help. GIS tools were also used in the work. Two maps of the heights and slopes of the Gegharkunik region at a scale of 1:100,000 were compiled, as well as qualitative and quantitative scales for the recreational and tourist assessment of the accessibility factors. The results of the study are important for the development of certain types of tourism and recreation in the Gegharkunik region.
