Numerical study of erosion wear in elbow under the action of gas-solid flow

In this paper, a comprehensive study of the hydrodynamics and erosion wear behavior is presented in CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations for modeling elbow structures. Both the gas velocity and particle diameter characteristics are considered in this investigation, and a detailed comparison among various erosion models and experimental data is performed. A series of CFD numerical simulations have been conducted for the 90-degree elbow to facilitate a detailed analysis of hydrodynamics and erosion behavior, including static pressure, erosion area and erosion rate. The results indicate that the erosion rate at the elbow position is significantly influenced by different erosion models. Both gas velocity and particle diameter emerge as crucial parameters in capturing the hydrodynamic behavior and erosion wear phenomena. We suggest the erosion model could be refined by integrating the factory-site sensor monitoring data and machine learning method to achieve more precise and near-real-time simulation results, which could enhance the maintenance and support of the pipeline systems in industrial applications.
