A Study on the Healing Meaning of the Pure Land(淨土)
The Pure Land (淨土) is described in Buddhism as an ideal world free from suffering, reflecting humanity’s aspiration to transcend afflictions and attain peace. The purpose of this study is to explore the healing significance of the Pure Land and its role from a contemporary perspective. The research first examines the concept and characteristics of the Pure Land through the Three Pure Land Sutras and the Vimalakirti Sutra, and the Lotus Sutra delving into the underlying meanings of the Pure Land. Subsequently, it investigates the Pure Land as a healing space, focusing on temples and pilgrimage paths, drawing on related studies. Finally, the study considers the modern implications and roles of the Pure Land. Unlike previous studies on Pure Land that were mainly limited to religious perspectives, this study used a psychological approach to shed light on the significance of Pure Land as a psychological resource for a better life for modern people.
