Performance comparison and application analysis of SIC and GAN semiconductor devices in integrated circuits
As the demand for more efficient and powerful electronic devices continues to rise, the development of advanced semiconductor materials has become crucial in meeting the stringent requirements of modern technology. This paper investigates the growing significance of Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductor devices within integrated circuits, particularly emphasizing their use in high-power and high-frequency electronics. SiC and GaN semiconductors have become increasingly important because of their exceptional electrical characteristics, including higher breakdown voltages, improved thermal conductivity, and quicker switching speeds compared to conventional silicon-based semiconductors. The paper delves into the structural designs and characteristics of SiC and GaN devices, highlighting their advantages in fields such as renewable energy, power electronics, and telecommunications. Additionally, the challenges of defect management, manufacturing costs, and reliability in extreme environments are discussed. The paper concludes that despite these challenges, the growing demand for high-performance semiconductors in electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and 5G networks positions SiC and GaN as pivotal technologies in the future of integrated circuits. Their adoption could significantly enhance energy efficiency and support the transition to sustainable energy systems, making them critical to the advancement of power electronics.
