Design of erbium-doped fiber laser based on numerical simulation

Erbium-doped fiber lasers have been widely studied by academia and industry due to their excellent gain characteristics, high efficiency, good beam quality, and broad application prospects in communications, medical treatment, and industrial processing. This paper uses MATLAB's efficient numerical simulation capabilities to build a simulation model of an erbium-doped fiber laser. It then analyzes the laser's performance. The study first established the basic theoretical model of EDFL and the mathematical description of related physical parameters. These models not only include basic parameters such as the refractive index and doping concentration of the optical fiber. They also cover the dynamic process of the interaction between pump light and erbium ions. Subsequently, the corresponding simulation model was constructed in the MATLAB environment. This model integrates multiple key factors such as the transmission equation of the optical fiber, the coupling efficiency of the pump light, and the excited state distribution of the gain medium. Through a carefully designed algorithm, the simulation model can accurately simulate the gain characteristics. It also simulates the output beam quality of the laser under different pumping conditions. Through a series of simulation experiments, the internal power conversion and output performance of the fiber laser under specific pump power and erbium doping concentration were explored. This provides a useful reference for practical design.
