Advancements and challenges in semiconductor materials: from theory to applications
This paper explores the dynamic landscape of semiconductor materials, which are pivotal in powering a multitude of electronic devices, from common household appliances to sophisticated industrial systems. It delves into the historical development, structural properties, and the various applications of semiconductor materials, particularly focusing on electronic devices, solar cells, and optoelectronic components. The evolution of semiconductors has marked significant technological milestones, notably the shift from silicon-based to more advanced materials like Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) and Gallium Nitride (GaN). These advancements have revolutionized industries by enabling high-speed, high-frequency applications and supporting the burgeoning demands of modern technology. Additionally, the paper discusses the ongoing research and innovations in monocrystalline silicon solar cells, which dominate the market due to their high efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The research further investigates the challenges posed by the diminishing size of integrated circuits and the associated electrical interference that impacts device performance. By providing a comprehensive overview of the current state and potential future developments in semiconductor technology, this study aims to contribute to the enhancement of electronic device capabilities and the promotion of sustainable energy solutions.
