The application of FMEA in widebody aircraft wing
FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) is a method to analyze the potential failure in system engineering so that failures can be most easily and inexpensively implemented and later crises can be minimized. In this paper, FMEA method is applied to widebody aircraft Boeing 737 wing to assess the potential failure modes. The wing is divided into four subsystems and each subsystem is divided into several parts, each part is discussed and analyzed at least for one common failure mode. For the sake of process objectivity, the entropy-weight method was chosen to optimize the FMEA method. The conclusion shows that different failure modes have different RPNs (Risks Priority Number) and recommended measures are given. Obtained result can be used in design process of widebody aircraft to achieve the goal which is enhance security and decrease the cost of repair.
