Coordinated control of EAU-based MEA power grid using MPC method

This paper presents a coordinated control technique based on Model Predictive Control (MPC) method for a More Electric Aircraft (MEA) power grid where transient load demanding by high-power airborne systems causes fluctuations and instability. A simplified EAU-based MEA power grid is given by simplifying electric appliances demands as a regular load and a transient load where EAU (Energy Accumulation Unit) composed of supercapacitor and bidirectional DC/DC converter supplies power. In order to optimize the energy management, a MPC-driven coordinated control system is explored. The superior performance of the proposed technique is evidenced by a comparative evaluation of simulation results juxtaposing the MPC controller against a standard PID controller.
