Performance study on the impact of air heat sink utilization on turbofan engines
As airplane flight time and Mach number increase, thermal management problems become more pressing. This is particularly true for the utilization of external air as a heat sink, as its impact on engine performance has not been fully understood. In this paper, we investigate the effect of air heat sink utilization on engine performance by developing a mathematical model of the engine and a heat sink utilization model, with a mixed-row engine as the research subject. The study concludes that the external heat exchanger is not suitable for the outer culvert channel and recommends placing it in the outer culvert instead. Additionally, increasing the air diversion rate at the end of the pressurizer decreases the stability margin of the fan, so air diversion should be reduced. A comparative study found that the flow performance of the heat exchanger has a significant impact on engine performance.
