Utilization of Glass-Beads for Interior Surface Material with an Experience Approach

Abstract Glass is one of the building materials that will be a problem to the environment when disposed of after use because It cannot be decomposed like organic waste. However, glass waste can be recycled or reused as a component of new products. This research aims to determine how people respond to glass waste in bead form when mixed as an interior surface material component. Experiments combine several types of glass beads embedded in polyester resin. Participants who are concise of designers and users are invited to give their opinions about the materials. The research employs the Material-Driven Design (MDD) method, a design approach that focuses on the unique properties of materials to guide the design process. The results of processed glass waste in several samples were explored to identify the sensory, interpretative, and affective responses. The test results found that there are tendencies to have the sensory response as a strong material. Emotionally, the material applied glass beads with violet color surrounding drew strong attention that stimulated feelings of fascination and curiosity. The created samples are recommended for commercial and modern facilities such as cafes or restaurants.
