Technology for The Production of Low-Carbon Ferrochrome Using Boron-Containing Silicon Chromium FSH-48 In Experimental Laboratory Conditions

Chrome ore is refractory, difficult to extract and does not dissolve well in slag, which ensures the formation of a layer called above «ore layer». To obtain low-carbon ferrochrome (0.1...0.5% C) by mixing liquid silicon-chrome with ore-lime melt, a silicothermic process is used in special ladles using open low-power electric arc furnaces or an off-furnace method. In the production of low-carbon ferrochrome, a list of the main problems that arise: the formation of difficult-to-process slags, losses of metal with slag, the need to maintain a high temperature level of the technological process led to additional energy costs. The main goal of the work is to stabilize highly basic slags from decay, ensuring high technical and economic indicators of smelting and to reduce metal losses with slag. Low-carbon ferrochrome is produced by the silicothermic method by mixing ore-lime melt with liquid silicon-chrome in a ladle. In laboratory studies of the physical properties of the final slag, the introduction of colemanite eliminates the problems of producing the final slag, and the final process is the reduction of silicon and the formation of a metallic phase to form iron and chromium silicides. Maintaining low process heat levels and reducing melting times by increasing silicon reduction rates provide significant energy savings. In general, it has been proven that the technology for smelting silicon-chrome containing boron is implemented with high technical and economic indicators.
