Template Free Direct Approach to Crystalline Mesoporous ZnO/Bi 2 O 3 Mixed Oxide Nanosheets with Enhanced Photo reactivity

Abstract The design and synthesis of mesoporous nanostructured materials have sparked significant interest over the last decade. However, developing a template free approach to obtain transition metal based mixed oxide nanosheets with mesopores is still challenging. We developed an easy template‐free direct solution‐based approach to fabricate crystalline ZnO/Bi 2 O 3 mesoporous nanosheets. The porous features of the mixed oxide nanosheets can be tuned using different precursors of the metal salts. The obtained nanosheets were employed as photocatalyst to treat textile waste using methylene blue (MB) dye as model textile waste. The photocatalyst manifests 92% degradation efficiency. The scavenging experiments indicate that holes are the main reactive species responsible for the degradation of MB. Applying two structurally unique photocatalysts towards dye degradation evidenced the structure activity relationship. This structure‐activity relationship underscores the importance of nanomaterial design and synthesis in optimizing photocatalytic performance for environmental remediation applications.
