Design study of a solar-powered hydrogen fuel station in the Ouargla region

Renewable technologies are indispensable for the development of sustainable energy, as they reduce reliance on fossil fuel reserves, improve global energy security, and reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. Hydrogen is not only a promising future technology that is extensively used worldwide, but it is also gaining importance. Hydrogen is essential for the sustainable transportation sector and numerous industrial applications. The high costs associated with the production of purified hydrogen impede the rapid advancement of renewable energy technologies that are focused on hydrogen production. Consequently, it is imperative to implement design optimization strategies in order to identify the most effective alternatives for the production of clean hydrogen. The purpose of this study is to assess the technical and economic optimization of a hydrogen refueling station in Ouargla, Algeria using HOMER Pro software. The station is solar-powered and has a hydrogen capacity of $\mathbf{1 2 0} \mathbf{~ k g} /$ day. The results showed that the cost of energy (COE) and net present cost (NPC) were $0.918{\$}$ and $48,574{\$}$, respectively
