Active Current Method-Based Adaptive Linear Filter For Five-Level Neutral Point Clamped Shunt Active Power Filter
Power electronic devices (PEDs) are essential for modern equipment but disrupt power quality by introducing harmonic currents, especially problematic in three-phase systems. This paper proposes a shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) using a five-level Neutral-Point Clamped (NPC) inverter for harmonic mitigation. The control algorithm leverages an Adaptive Linear Neuron (ADALINE) filter based on Active Currents Theory for harmonic identification, combined with a hysteresis band current controller (HBCC) for accurate compensation current injection. The proposed method is compared to a conventional low-pass filter approach. The entire system is modeled and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the ADALINE-based method in mitigating harmonics compared to the conventional approach.
