Development of Reverse Vending Machine based on Yolov8

The ever-increasing volume of plastic waste, particularly plastic bottles, poses a significant environmental threat. Improper disposal leads to pollution, overflowing landfills, and marine debris, harming ecosystems and human health. This paper proposes the development of a smart recycling rewards system combining a reverse vending machine (RVM) with a userfriendly mobile application to incentivize recycling behavior. The RVM accurately identifies and accepts various types of plastic bottles using YOLOv8, while the mobile application allows users to track their recycling efforts and redeem rewards. This work aims to promote sustainable practices, reduce waste generation, and contribute to a cleaner environment.
