Sensorless Speed Control of Induction Motor Using Sliding mode control and MRAS

This paper presents a novel approach to sensorless speed control of induction motors utilizing sliding mode control (SMC) and Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS). The proposed control scheme employs vector control, using two sliding mode regulators to achieve precise and robust control performance. The absence of mechanical sensors enhances the system’s reliability and reduces overall costs, making it a viable solution for various industrial applications. The induction motor model is developed based on its electrical and mechanical dynamics, and the control system is designed to estimate rotor speed and flux using stator current and voltage measurements. The MRAS-based estimator compares a reference model with an adaptive model, minimizing the error between the two to provide accurate rotor speed and flux estimates. The sliding mode controllers ensure robust performance by effectively handling system uncertainties and external disturbances. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed sensorless control system maintains stability and accuracy under load and speed variations.
