Intelligent Controller to Improve Stator Voltage Regulation Performance of a Standalone DFIG: Real-Time Validation
In this paper, an intelligent controller is proposed to improve the stator voltage magnitude regulation performance of a wind-driven DFIG feeding local AC loads. Unlike in grid-connected mode, the rotor side control (RSC) focus during standalone operation is to generate a constant stator voltage amplitude and frequency under variable conditions such as wind-speed changes and load variations. The objective is to replace the classic PI control technique with a robust fuzzy logic technique to achieve high-performance stator voltage control. The control algorithm has been implemented on the dSPACE1104 system with a real 3 kW DFIG in the LGEB laboratory, demonstrating its practical viability. The performance of the developed fuzzy logic-based intelligent voltage controller is evaluated by comparison with the conventional PI controller under different operating conditions. The findings demonstrate the superior performance of the fuzzy logic controller in stator voltage control compared to the conventional PI controller.
