The removal of copper (II) from aqueous solution using ETS-10 zeolite

Copper ion pollution from various industries is a major concern due to its detrimental impact on water quality. This study investigated the potential of ETS-10 zeolite, synthesized hydrothermally at 230°C for 24 hours, as an adsorbent for Cu(II) removal from aqueous solutions. Characterization of the synthesized ETS-10 was performed using XRD, FT-IR, and SEM-EDX techniques. The effects of pH and contact time on Cu(II) adsorption efficiency were evaluated. The concentration of Cu (II) ions before and after adsoption was recorded by the atomic absorption spectrophotometry technique (AAS). The results revealed that pH plays a critical role, with optimal adsorption observed at pH 6 and a contact time of 540 min. The Langmuir isotherm model indicated a maximum adsorption capacity of 115.02 mg/g, suggesting that ETS-10 has promising potential as a "super adsorbent" material for copper ion removal in water treatment applications.
