Optimal Sizing of Residential Photovoltaic (PV) - Battery Power System in an Off-grid Configuration
The aim of this study is to determine the optimal PV -battery system size for the proposed off-grid configuration at the lowest feasible cost. This study employs linear programming (LP) interior-point algorithm as an optimization method to account for factors such as load demand, battery performance, and solar irradiation. The optimization method determines the most cost-effective way to combine photovoltaic (PV) panels with battery capacity to give residences a reliable and durable energy source. The research recommends using the MATLAB environment for the analysis and solution of the suggested optimization technique related to renewable energy (RE). An effective framework for maximizing efficiency, optimizing energy systems, and guaranteeing dependable operation in the face of uncertainties and fluctuations in system parameters is offered by LP with the interior-point algorithm. Energy systems with a variety of interrelated variables can be effectively modelled and optimized using the proposed technique due to its proficiency in managing constraints, and intricate objective functions. Findings indicate that, with 24 PV panels and a battery with a capacity of 27,668 kWh, the optimal investment cost is 16% of the initial cost. The results provide insights into the economically and technically suitable designs, hence advancing RE systems designed for residential applications.
