Reliability and Maintainability Assessment of the Infrastructure Components in Electric Power Distribution Network: A Case Study of Lekki Injection Substation

Electric power distribution systems form the backbone of modern infrastructure, ensuring the seamless flow of electricity to meet the demands of urban and industrial centers. The reliability and maintainability of these systems are paramount for uninterrupted service delivery, economic productivity, and public safety. This case study presents a comprehensive assessment of the reliability and maintainability of infrastructure within the context of the Lekki Injection Substation, a critical component of the power distribution network. Statistical analysis of outage data was employed to examine the reliability and maintainability of key infrastructural components within the electric power distribution network. From a twelve-month statistical data, outage data stemming from cables, transformers, breakers, line conductors, and busbars and isolators was gathered from the Lekki 33/11kV Injection substation, operated by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDP) in Lagos state. Each year's data was graphically depicted in a chart, facilitating a comparative analysis of component failures across the observed timeframe. The analysis showcases the substation's commendably low System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) values, indicating a minimal frequency of interruptions, while System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) values reflect shorter outage durations, signifying enhanced system reliability. Furthermore, the study assesses monthly Customer Average Interruption Duration Index (CAIDI) values, providing insights into restoration timeframes following outages.
