Capacidade de arrasto do PIB agropecuário e sua influência sobre indicadores socioeconômicos municipais selecionados

It has become common to qualify agribusiness as the driver of our economy and one of the main components of the formation of the GDP of the Brazilian economy. The evolution of international indi-cators (HDI) contributed to the consolidation of this perspective. To test this hypothesis, we sought to segment the municipalities of São Paulo into quartiles of participation in the agricultural GDP (low, low average, high medium and high), comparing them with the average of 6 variables and 31 indicators for the 645 municipalities of São Paulo. By segmenting the municipalities based on the agriculture GDP and comparing them with the average of all the municipalities of São Paulo for the 6 variables, it was found that the municipalities with the lowest significance in agriculture, therefore higher in GDP of industry and services, had these same variables 5.36% better than the leaders in the GDP of agricul-ture, that is, those in which this variable comprises hight participation of the total wealth produced. Although the result is discreet, it denotes the inability of agriculture to improve indicators that repre-sent gains in the well-being of society as a whole.
